Snow Day Goodness

December 19, 2009

We live in the perfect part of the country to revel in snow. If we lived further south, a prediction of snow would be followed by only an inch or two, at best — just a tease. If we lived further north, the ground would be covered with icy precipitation throughout the winter. After months of seeing filthy piles of snow on the perimeter of parking lots and frozen mounds of grimy slush, it would quickly lose its magic. Here in Central Virginia, we thoroughly enjoy snowstorms. Or maybe I’m just speaking for myself. πŸ˜€

It started snowing yesterday evening. John and the kids had just come home with a Christmas tree. I put a roast in the Crockpot, and I had the breadmaker buzzing away and homemade applesauce simmering on the stove. Life was good!

This morning we woke up to at least a foot, and it was going strong. John reckons we’re up to 20 inches, and it’s still coming down.

John and the younger kids started a snow fort — then DD1 joined them for some hot chocolate and Mario Karts. I guess DD1, like me, likes the IDEA of playing in the snow better than the actual practice. My idea of Nirvana is to watch happy children hiking through snow drifts and throwing snowballs — y’know, through the window. πŸ™‚

Happy Saturday, Everyone!
