It’s Monday … What Are You Reading?

June 14, 2010

This weekly meme is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s been a sweaty, sluggish week in the wake of an exceptionally difficult month. All around us, families are making the end of the school year transition. Since my kids don’t go to school, and I have no intention of letting them off the hook from the bit of formal academics they are doing, that’s not really a blip on my radar. Things go on as usual, chauffeuring the three monkeys around three counties, making a a small dent in the chaos that is our messy … err … lovingly lived in home, and — of course — a bit of reading and movies.

I’m no longer doing the mailbox meme, because I’ve stopped buying books and accepting review copies. I still have two books I accepted for review that I need to finish, then I’m taking a break from that for a while. Back to choosing books freely.

Books Reviewed This Week:

Under This Unbroken Sky by Shandi Mitchell

Half Life by Roopa Farooki

Movie Reviews:

The Kite (by me)

Fantastic Mr. Fox (by Sarah)

Reading Now:

Huh. I’m about halfway into this book — what can I say? Cats being murdered so the perpetrator can steal their souls to make a magic flute. Fish and leeches raining down from the sky. A pimp in the form of Colonel Sanders (yes, the KFC icon)  offering the services of a talented hooker who quotes Hegel.  As Stephanie at Misfit Salon pointed out, when ghosts appear it seems perfectly normal compared to everything else going on in this novel. And I thought MY brain was a strange, disturbing place to be. 😀 This novel is laced with philosophy, surprising twists, and gratuitous weirdness. Stay tuned for my review in a couple of days.

I cannot wait to read your review of Kafka – just as strange if not stranger than its namesake, isn’t it? The cat killings were a little hard to stomach.

I think that I might be ready for another dose of Murakami….Hardboiled Wonderland maybe?

I do love the title of Hardboiled Wonderland!

I confess to having never read Kafka — though of course I’ve heard about his famous Metamorphosis. No cockroaches is the Murakami book … at least not yet.

I’m STILL traumatised about the cats :S Lovely book overall, though.

The book you are reading sounds seriously disturbing. I hope you won’t mind if I don’t add it to my TBR stack. I am currently in the mood for lighter reads. Hope you enjoy it. Happy reading!

*LOL!* I don’t mind at all — after this, I’m going to be in the mood for a few lighter reads myself. 😉

Kathy Martin – your comment cracked me up! 😀
